Freak

Freak

Talk about a freak…that’s how I feel when I can’t help but hear Scripture come through songs that are not made to be Christian music. But, here we are.

Continuing with my recent penchant for matching song lyrics with Bible verses, I wanted to bring another one for the song Freak. This song is a collaboration with Beauty School Dropout and Jxdn (Jaden Hossler). This blog follows the article about another song by Jaden called Pray and ending the messianic secret as it relates to the true nature of discipleship. You may also be interested in the comparison for Jxdn’s song Angels and Demons. or Bieber and Mendes’ Monster.

What’s it about?

Freak is a song about being different and plays on the other side of the spiritual world from mainstream religion. It shines a bright light on what it means to be circumcised or cut off. Before you freak, it’s a good thing to realize different people are in this world. That is literally Jesus’ ministry—valleys of dry bones are brought high, and mighty mountains are brought low.

The song and video bring in a ton of references to the cut-off and cast-out. The primary premise is being lost like the right hand or right eye being cast out of the body as Jesus taught not to let the left hand know what the right hand is doing.

They sing about being leashed so they would not be lost. The problem is that is not the order of things. Someone must be completely lost to be completely found, like the scapegoat offering (Leviticus 16:26), the person in linen who escapes naked (Mark 14:52), and the woman with her child who are protected in the wilderness (Revelation 12:16).

If there was only a leash – they might still be together. Instead, they go to a party and smash their heads against the wall until they are blue. This is someone’s inability to cross from one side of the wall, or veil, like Ezekiel, who is referred to as ‘son of man,’ is taught (Ezekiel 8:8, 13:13-15).

There are so many connections to be drawn, but this is a reasonably high-level overview of strange biblical ties. There are other significant connections, however.

Other Connections

I tend to discount connections unless there are so many it just can’t be coincidence. Whether that is ten or twenty, I don’t really know. It can’t be just five or six. It must seem to be purposeful or it doesn’t feel right. When one of the artists has tattoos in perfectly appropriate places relative to the temple design in Ezekiel, I pay attention. When another one has a tattoo that says to ‘raise hell until it’s high enough to be in heaven,’ it also gets my attention. When people like this put together a song about demons that match all of the hidden backstory of the Bible in a song that has a length of 2:28, it really gets my attention.

Timing is important and the numbers are meaningful. I can’t believe – not for a second – the length of the song was immaterial. You’ll see more about timing when we compare the song to Bible verses.

Twenty-eight is a number of completion, but it’s much more than that. Two is a number of division with a void in the middle like a womb or space to grow in desolation (Jaden has a “2” on his chest between two wings, which makes me think of Leviticus 1:17 and 12:8). The song length alone suggests to me the idea of separation before eventual reunification. Of course, you need to get a bit nerdy about the numbers of the Bible to sort that out, but here we are.

Unspoken Things

Check out the post on tongues for a better idea of what it means to say something without saying it at all.

Blink 182 (one eight two) is a band that may be better stated as one ate two in the blink of an eye – as a thief in the night. Or, as the Apostle Paul called it, in the twinkle of an eye. That would make someone a ‘loser’ in the game of life.

The scenes with mannequins, moped, wiping the camera lens, colors, and an empty bathtub all round out the message hidden behind the facade. They each seem to have biblical connections, but more importantly, it makes sense. Let me know what you think after reading this. Maybe I’m crazy, but I can’t unsee the hidden message.

Vulgarity

The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’” (Luke 7:34)

Some songs seem vulgar, but they convey something other than what it seems. It is the alternative meaning to an idea hidden away in the Bible. Until we recognize the backstory, we will not understand what is being said. Sex is that. The word F*** is also that. Lore suggests it means For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, but I suspect it really means For Unlawful Cardinal Knowledge, as in red or blood. This is why it was shocking to Jesus’ followers that they would eat his flesh and drink his blood. To be F*cked is to be unveiled for unlawful cardinal knowledge. Or to say something one group is not allowed to hear (Acts 16:20-21).

So, what is sex?

That’s a ridiculous question, but the question is about the spiritual side, not the human or temporal side.

The song Freak is definitely fitting of the name. The funny thing is how tightly it fits with the biblical backstory. One of the funnier parts is the concept of the way ‘sex’ is used in the Bible. The elder and younger have to come together for things to ‘take off.’ That is why the story in Genesis 6 did not work out. There was no free will. Sodom didn’t work either because Lot blocked free will—it’s not gay sex. The younger has to go to the elder (Mark 10:15), or children of man must go to the sons of God. The oxen, or man (1 Corinthians 9:9), must stand up before the woman (Leviticus 18:23) who are the foreigners or sons of God (Jeremiah 50:37) to conceive a spiritual child (Jeremiah 6:24, Isaiah 21:3, Isaiah 13:8, 1 Thessalonians 5:3). Grandchildren are the crown because of the way the redemption process works (Proverbs 17:6).

Welcome to Freak and the artist’s subsequent GILF (grandmother/father/child I’d like to F***) references. This is the unnatural attraction as someone burns in desire for the other (Romans 1:27).

Time StampFreak: Beauty School Dropout and Jaden HosslerDescription of the VideoMark 8, 9, and 14
01-07Setup is a green chair with plants all around. The setup matches the biblical backstory of fresh green growth.4 And His disciples answered Him, “Where will anyone be able to find enough bread here in this desolate place to satisfy these people?”
5 And He was asking them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven.”
6 And He directed the people to sit down on the ground; and taking the seven loaves, He gave thanks and broke them, and started giving them to His disciples to serve to them, and they served them to the people.
7 They also had a few small fish; and after He had blessed them, He ordered these to be served as well.
:08Wait, listen to this.Teaching and hearing is the concept of eating in the Bible. It is the consumption of something new like John eating the scroll in revelation.Mark 8:8 And they ate and were satisfied; and they picked up seven large baskets full of what was left over of the broken pieces.
:09-12Maybe if I wasn’t such a freak,This ties to the Bible as a statement that he would not have any problems if he wasn’t a freak and arguing with Jesus.Mark 8:9 About four thousand were there; and He sent them away.
And immediately He entered the boat with His disciples and came to the district of Dalmanutha.
They thought Jesus was a freak. They did not believe him.The Pharisees came out and began to argue with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, to test Him.
Maybe if Jesus provided a sign he would not be seen as a freak. They thought he was insane (John 10:20).Sighing deeply in His spirit, He said, “Why does this generation seek for a sign? Truly I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.”
:13-14you’d be with meBoth speak to separation.Leaving them, He again embarked and went away to the other side.
The person is the bread. They forgot it.14 And they had forgotten to take bread, and did not have more than one loaf in the boat with them.
:15I’m suchaSomething to watch out for is the false teacher or loser. That is someone who gave false testimony.15 And He was giving orders to them, saying, “Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”
:16-17Loser, I’m suchThey are losers since they had no bread (teaching, understanding or spiritual food) and they had to watch out for the leaven of the pharisee since that is the only bread around.16 They began to discuss with one another the fact that they had no bread.
Jesus is speaking to them about this. He’s saying you aren’t a loser.17 And Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you discuss the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet see or understand? Do you have a 1hardened heart?
:18-20a lohhhserLooks at the camera. Jesus asks about eyes, ears, and memory of things. A camera would be exactly what they need.Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember,
They apparently don’t get it.19 when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces you picked up?” They said to Him, “Twelve.”
Still don’t get it.20 “When I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of broken pieces did you pick up?” And they said to Him, “Seven.”
:21two three fourChanges tone completely from soft to harsh. This verse suggests they get it. Now they divide and there is plenty.21 And He was saying to them, “Do you not yet understand?”
:22All three looking down bright colors but seemingly out of focus in the sun. Flashes to a number of scenes with red faces. The verse reference has the blind man in Bethesda.22 And they came to Bethsaida. And they brought a blind man to Jesus and implored Him to touch him.
:23Flashes to someone looking at a goldfish in a bowl. Now Jesus lays hands on him and asks if he can see. I can only think of the alignment of someone looking into the fishbowl as to see what’s going on.23 Taking the blind man by the hand, He brought him out of the village; and after spitting on his eyes and laying His hands on him, He asked him, “Do you see anything?”
He sees the trees walking around.24 And he looked up and said, “I see men, for I see them like trees, walking around.”
:25Jaden is caressing the seat of a motor cycle with his face pressed against it. The verse is about being able to see clearly. The nuance of the bike is the escape route or the ability to leave. That ability is a treasure.25 Then again He laid His hands on his eyes; and he looked intently and was restored, and began to see everything clearly.
26 And He sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter the village.”
Jesus went out, along with His disciples, to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He questioned His disciples, saying to them, “Who do people say that I am?”
:28One of the freaks is licking the leg of grandma after reaching for the pearl necklace and exposing a tattoo that says forgiveness. This verse is about understanding what you are witnessing or looking at. They did not all know, but some figured it out. That ancient of days, so to speak, is who Jesus was despite being hidden. Jesus is also the string of pearls as the family line is hidden in the ark like an oyster shell.28 They told Him, saying, “John the Baptist; and others say Elijah; but others, one of the prophets.”
:29Flips to a close up of a freak with red face and mouth open. Then to a manequin being held. The connection here is to realize Christ will come from who people think is the devil. He must because the entire point of how things work is when God raises someone from where they are not supposed to be and brings peace.29 And He continued by questioning them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.”
30 And He warned them to tell no one about Him.
:31Kissing a goldfish from outside of the fishbowl.  The verse connection is teaching, which is kissing. It is a transfer of knowledge from one to the next. The fish is in the water or sea, which is the idea of being locked up in a chamber in the condition of a fish, which is judgment.31 And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
32 And He was stating the matter plainly. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.
33 But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.”
:34-35LoserA loser would be able to come after Christ.34 And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.
:35-36If you wanna kill meThe verse reference is about killing and living. One must die to live.35 “For whoever wishes to save his 1life will lose it, but whoever loses his 1life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.
This is the verse Jaden has tattooed on his right arm. It was his first tattoo and is the idea of not turning the stone into bread in the wilderness. He won’t take that bait. Someone is going ot have to kill him, which is the tie to the song.36 “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?
:37-38All you gotta do is say “hi”Apparently all someoen has to do is say hello for the soul. I think this really is true also. The only thing someone must do to be awakened is realize who someone is and acknowledge it.37 “For what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
38 “For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
:39I’ll feel awesomeLooking at himself in a mirror/polished helmet. The scripture reference changed to the Mark 9 because Mark 8 did not have enough verses. The verses are about casting out demons, which would feel good, until they realized they cast themselves out. This changes to the next chapter in Mark because chapter 8 does not have this many verses.

39 But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him, for there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name, and be able soon afterward to speak evil of Me.

40 “For he who is not against us is for us.
:41-42Awesome means depressed, right?Face against a wall of yellow tools. Being stuck to another is the idea of giving water or teaching. This is depicted by wholeness, but it ends up being like a prison when someone realizes what it is really like.41 “For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because of your name as followers of Christ, truly I say to you, he will not lose his reward.
:42-43I just saw you at a partyHe’s wearing a skirt and a suit and tie above the waste. The verse references are about cutting off parts of the body. The skirt is a reference to Jesus wrapping a towel around his waste, which is a kind of blindfold to the world below, or offspring. The suit and tie is a reference to being properly dressed above the fray. A party is a feast, which is when someone beholds or recognizes another in a form of judgment.42Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe to stumble, it would be better for him if, with a heavy millstone hung around his neck, he had been cast into the sea.
43 “If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life crippled, than, having your two hands, to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire,
:44-45You said you weren’t goin’ toPolishing a trophy. This is a very important tie into Jaden’s other songs as One Minute Left is all about being cut off without a chance to say anything to his family. Now, in this condition, he can polish the trophy like the woman cleaning Jesus’ feet. Jesus taught his disciples would have to wash each other’s feet. That is the story here. It is in a place where the worm will never die and the fire won’t be quenched – hell.44 [where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.]
45 “If your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame, than, having your two feet, to be cast into hell,
:46-47Slam my head against the wallGetting on the scooter. Slamming another person’s head against the wall is the punishmnet of blocking someone out. Think of Amnon locking the door on Tamar.46 [where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.]
47 “If your eye causes you to stumble, throw it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than, having two eyes, to be cast into hell,
:48-49Until it’s fuckin’ blueSnaps back to the wall of tools but the colors change. Comes away looking dazed after having his head slammed against the wall. The verse selection continues on with the idea of hell. Being blue is someone in hell.48 where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.
49 “For everyone will be salted with fire.
:50-52‘Cause I hate my face when I’m kissing youSqueezed face. Makes a kiss to the camera and flips to the fishbowl. The verse is about having perspective. The lyrics match that idea of perspective.50 “Salt is good; but if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”

:53-55But in my dreams, I’m missing you Skipped due to the limited number of verses in the chapter.

:56-59Like your favorite band, blink-182Blink 182 means one person ate two to become one. This is three in one, like the three crosses on Calvary. Skipped due to the limited number of verses in the chapter.

1:00-02Blink-182Wipes the camera with a red cloth.
The sense is clarity and understanding. That comes when Jesus removes the blinders like a thief in the night or when one ate two.And Jesus was saying to them, “Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.”
Clarity continues here as three disciples are present, and the transfiguration likely happened in the blink of an eye.Six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them;
1:03-06Maybe if I wasn’t such a freak, you’d be with meFour faces, but mouths only but flashes to a number of scenes.3 and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them.
There are multiple faces present in the scriptures.4 Elijah appeared to them along with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.
Peter does not understand that Elijah, Moses, and Jesus are the same person.5 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
The freaky nature of things keeps him from understanding or knowing what to say. This matches the lyrics.6 For he did not know what to answer; for they became terrified.
1:07-8I’m such a loser (Loser)Changes to kissing a mannequin.7 Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is My beloved Son, 2listen to Him!”
They are ‘losers’ because they were not understood, just like the disciples did not understand the transfiguration.8 All at once they looked around and saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone.
1:09-13Maybe if you put me on a leash, you’d be with meChanges to the guy riding a grandma as if it is sex. Presumably, it is some sort of nonconsensual sex before turning back to the red faces running down the street. As they were coming down from the mountain, He gave them orders not to relate to anyone what they had seen, until the Son of Man rose from the dead.
Teaching is sex. Jesus told them not to share the details until some time later.10 They seized upon that statement, discussing with one another what rising from the dead meant.
11 They asked Him, saying, “Why is it that the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
The older person (Elijah) restores all things, hence the grandmother. They will be separated, however. The leash would keep them together.12 And He said to them, “Elijah does first come and restore all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt?
If they had the leash, they would know.13 “But I say to you that Elijah has indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written of him.”
1:14-18I’m such a loser, I’m such a loserAgain, this is concerning someone who cannot beat the game of life. The child is circumcised and cannot speak.14 When they came back to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and some scribes arguing with them.
This is exactly the issue of the messianic secret.15 Immediately, when the entire crowd saw Him, they were amazed and began running up to greet Him.
16 And He asked them, “What are you discussing with them?”
17 And one of the crowd answered Him, “Teacher, I brought You my son, possessed with a spirit which makes him mute;
This is the affliction of the money changer who continues to ransom spiritual offspring. They go from water to fire repeatedly. They cannot cast out that demon. It must be healed through fasting and prayer.18 and whenever it seizes him, it slams him to the ground and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth and stiffens out. I told Your disciples to cast it out, and they could not do it.
19 And He answered them and said, “O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him to Me!”
20 They brought the boy to Him. When he saw Him, immediately the spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the ground, he began rolling around and foaming at the mouth.
1:21I gеt super shy, huhThis is being hidden for a long time. It is a longstanding affliction.21 And He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.
1:22-23Turns out boys do cry, huhChange to a bathroom with a manequen in the tub. Pink walls. The Bible verse is perfect as it depicts the shell of a person in the empty bathtub – with the inability to be baptized since there is no water. As such, they cry.22 “It has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!”
Crying is also preaching, therefore, anything is possible.23 And Jesus said to him, “ ‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.”
1:24-25I know she don’t need meThis is closer to the backstory than it is the direct meaning. Someone is cast out when they are unneeded. It is a bad thing to be cast out because it means the family/person does not want the broken part. This is something Jesus came to fix, but it was a process.24 Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help my unbelief.”
Jesus casts out the unclean spirit so it can be cleaned.25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was rapidly gathering, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You deaf and mute spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again.”
1:26-27Makеs me wanna die, huhThey are both about death.26 After crying out and throwing him into terrible convulsions, it came out; and the boy became so much like a corpse that most of them said, “He is dead!”
The lyrics say wanna die, but that is not death. The Bible matches the idea.27 But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him; and he got up.
1:28-29Don’t give her the keys, noThe keys are to lock up or loose from a biblical perspective. The song is about driving, but that is also the escape vehicle. Keys are understanding and the hope is someone would not give the keys to cast them out again.28 When He came into the house, His disciples began questioning Him privately, “Why could we not drive it out?”
The key is to pray.29 And He said to them, “This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer.”
1:30-31‘Cause she drive me crazyThis is a departure from one place to another as in crazy. It is a state of mind.30 From there they went out and began to go through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know about it.
31 For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later.”
1:32-33She could drink my blood, yeahThey could not understand and, therefore, could not drink the blood. Drinking blood is witnessing how things are from a generational perspective.32 But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him.
33 They came to Capernaum; and when He 1was in the house, He began to question them, “What were you discussing on the way?”
1:34-35It wouldn’t even phase me, babyThey don’t care because they know the truth of how things work. It doesn’t matter if someone does not understand.34 But they kept silent, for on the way they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest.
Jesus teaches it doesn’t matter and go for the lowest position.35 Sitting down, He called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”
1:36-38‘Cause I hate my face when I’m kissing youHe is drawing the word Fish on an EchoSketch and shows it to the fish in a fishbowl.36 Taking a child, He set him before them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them,
The idea of kissing is calling someone out. One hates himself when he does this. That is the idea of casting out demons.37 “Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me.”
Kissing is like Judas turning in Jesus.38 John said to Him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.”
39 But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him, for there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name, and be able soon afterward to speak evil of Me.
1:40-41But in my dreams, I’m missingThey co-labor and that is the idea of a dream or vision.40 “For he who is not against us is for us.
41 “For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because of your name as followers of Christ, truly I say to you, he will not lose his reward.
1:42YouThe video flips from the red-faced people (demons, presumably) to the young person tempted by the older person. That temptation is the warning of the verse. Don’t make the young fall.42Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe to stumble, it would be better for him if, with a heavy millstone hung around his neck, he had been cast into the sea.
1:43-44Like your favorite band, BlinkThe grandmother is shaking her behind in the face of the ‘younger’ person before flipping back to the guys with red faces.43 “If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life crippled, than, having your two hands, to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire,
The guys with the red faces are presumably in hell, which aligns.44 [where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.]
1:45182One ate two is the idea. It is a consumption of one side eating two others making three in one. That is the idea of three people crucified on the cross together. You will watch your ‘earthly’ part as it is cast off.45 “If your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame, than, having your two feet, to be cast into hell,
1:46-47Blink-182Same concept.46 [where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.]
47 “If your eye causes you to stumble, throw it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than, having two eyes, to be cast into hell,
48 where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.
1:49-51Maybe if I wasn’t such a freak,You would not need to be salted unless you are a freak.49 “For everyone will be salted with fire.
If you are a freak, you need to be salted to have peace. In other words, experience the human condition.50 “Salt is good; but if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
