The Messianic Secret and the Secret Covenant
This is the final post in my series focused on the Messianic Secret or secret covenant. While there will likely be more messages around this topic, my intention was to break the silence.
The Messianic Secret is perhaps the worst name for this topic. I did not, however, want to commandeer another name and context. Secrets abound in our world, and we all know there is some level of truth to that, whether it is historical, spiritual, temporal, or simply lore. This conjures up thoughts of the ancient blood oaths and secret societies, like the Knights Templar. We have the all-seeing eye on the US dollar bill, and the Illuminati were thought to have infiltrated the American founding fathers. Maybe that is the case. Either way, it is biblical to have one side in hiding while the other experiences freedom. Gamaliel perpetuated the persecution.
Don’t let the left hand know what the right hand is doing. That is the secret covenant.
They Don’t Have To Understand
To some, this series on the Secret Covenant is probably about the most ridiculous thing one could read, but each part of this is backed up with Scripture. Though it is not adequately referenced in these posts, the backup is outlined in my upcoming books, should you be interested. Also, I do not expect anyone to believe me except those impacted by this. And there are many. By now you have seen how Scripture comes out in modern music. It is, however, hidden from plain sight. As Andy Black of The Black Veil Brides says in his song by the same name, They don’t have to understand.
Depth
The depth of this hidden world is ridiculously complex. Each word of the Bible, including order, is meaningful. God’s chosen form of communication leaves bare the idea that God doesn’t exist. When considering how things thread together, we must recognize the vastness of God’s creation and how the complexities come together. I call this God’s code. Each story in the Bible lays out the same message in a new way or light. Illuminating that structure allows deeper understanding and interpretation. It all begins with the context of creation.
Truth emerges when we get past the tongues of confusion. We discover the interconnection of everything in that gap between realities. Growth happens in the womb of separation. That is the depth.
Musicians
I touched on musicians in other posts, but this review is so light it is simply an introduction. Modern artists who sing about the topic of being stuck in the darkness seem nearly ubiquitous. They sing about the same things, like fading embers, being lame, not good enough, a disconnected phone, voice messages, or being the court jester. Each of these concepts is present throughout Scripture as someone who must anoint his head with oil and put himself on a hill, and pretend like everything is fine all while being disconnected.
The rules are lined out fairly well in Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. Jesus also taught of casting out the right hand, eye, or foot. Songs often speak of hands and feet as walking a thousand miles or holding a drink. Many artists also have crosses tattooed by their right eye, while others are seen holding a hand over that eye. On rare occasion, you might see the left eye covered.
Symbols
Some people have speculated there is a deeper, or even satanic, meaning behind symbols and emblems. It is, however, nothing but scriptural to mark one’s body with tattoos. It is surprising how many times the Bible talks about it in a positive sense, much to my initial surprise. Instead, it seems these artists and others are signaling something they cannot overtly say. This is the language of tongues or riddles. The Apostle Paul said to interpret tongues edifies the church. I did not understand that was happening when I began this journey but have now realized that is part of my calling. The unknown is scary, but when it is of God and Christ, perhaps we can accept what Paul said; each aspect of the spirit is indeed part of the same spirit (1 Corinthians 12:13). Each is part of the Body of Christ.
Where to from here?
Well, these posts on the secret covenant are certainly going to be shocking to some. They were, and are, to me; that’s for sure. Remember, though, Jesus opens our eyes a little bit at a time. It is like the blind person who initially only saw men as trees. Jesus healed him again, and he could see clearly. He could then see the kinds of trees, not simply that they existed. He could discern the differences between them.
These posts are ending because the primary message I needed to get out is now published. Anyone looking for more depth can certainly check back or look at some of the other posts. Alternatively, they can purchase my upcoming books, which add much more depth to this topic. These posts, however, are intended to give those afflicted enough confidence to break free. Jesus said to freely receive and freely give. Nothing should be withheld, so nothing is.
It is up to the hearer to determine if this message is meaningful or not. From there, I have no idea what comes next. That view is completely opaque to me. I pray that anyone on this journey finds their missing pieces.
Reconciliation
Reconciliation is my over-arching hope. It is all about reconciliation after understanding the plight of those afflicted by the furnace. I also hope those who are driven apart by the wayward wind of the intellectual classes can be made whole with their families. Life is hard enough on each of us. We do not need our own families telling us we are not worthy when most people do not understand what that even means. Accepting Christ and praying in secret while nobody knows that side of you is the essence of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. It is not up to us to decide if someone lives up to a Christ-like standard.
For those who think they do, remember that Jesus was thought to have been a drunkard who eats and hangs out with those who are perceived as the worst. The reason why might shock you. It is because that is how wealth is created to pay the debts of those accusing their families and others of not being good enough. It is the paradoxical way of the biblical landscape. Read this clearly – it is the only way to spiritually pay for the acts of the Church and its members. Praise Jesus for enduring the hell we put him through.
Paradoxical Prison
One fascinating paradox is the self-imprisonment of human pride that locks everything up until we can forgive. That is because we are judged by the same measure as those we judge. If we can accept hell for someone else, we must accept hell for ourselves. That hell of separation continues as Jesus is denied his church because we deny Christ to ourselves.
When Jesus called Peter Satan, Jesus also told Peter that he did not have his mind on God but on man. Don’t put your family behind your interpretation of God’s will. You will be sorry. Family first. God most. Love everlasting. Amen.
